It gets harder and harder to keep up with the frenzy of activities in St Augustine these days. Seems there is not a weekend to take a breath or you will miss out on something great! While all these events are happening ( we have recently seen Rhythm and Ribs, A Taste of St Augustine, the Easter Parade, Santana at the Amphitheatre, amongst many other top acts, Kiss the Pig and on and on) There is a lot of planning going on as well, specifically to do with the 450th anniversary of the founding of St Augustine. Towards that end a visioning committee has been formed, called "Visioning 2014 and Beyond”. It has met several times already and last Sat's meeting was open to the public. The meeting was attended by about 75 people, including members of the steering committee, local business owners and even a big name, Jonathan Blount, a founder of Essence magazine. They were asked to do various exercises; for instance what attracts them to St Augustine, and what attributes does the city have in common with other desirable locations around the nation You can keep up with what's going on their website www.visionstaug.com. To receive information on the progress of the initiative, email vision@citystaug.com and put "vision" in the subject line or if you are a phone chatter, you can call the Public Affairs office at 904-825-1004. There are lots of ways to stay tuned as you can see and I think it's quite an important move in the right direction to get St Augustine off the ground before the 450th!  Concerns that the residents have such as what on earth will we do with the traffic? Will also be a hot topic during the coming days. “Signature events” as they are calling themselves, include the week-long Romanza Art Festival, The Chalk Walk (May 3rd and 4th) and in the fall a benefit ball to restore the American Legion Hall downtown. Let’s see who else gets on board!!
