Elk River, Minnesota is a community that has grown rapidly over the past 10-15 years, what was primarily once a rural community is now populated with many newer single family home and townhome developments and new schools.  The Elk River public school district is ISD #728 and encompasses Elk River, Otsego, Rogers and Zimmerman areas and is one of the largest districts in the state.

 

The city is nestled between two major arteries, I-169/Hwy 101 and Hwy 10 and is also bound by the Mississippi River, where the "old", but vital downtown lies and is considered an "arts & cultural" neighborhood. Downtown is situated along the Mississippi River boasting breath-taking views and an area for concerts, events and even weddings, to name a few.  Along these major roadways are many shopping (clothing, furniture, groceries & specialty shops and boutiques) and restaurant conveniences. Some of my favorite local restaurants are Mucho Loco, Pompeii Pizzeria, McCoy's, Broadway Pizza, Chipotle and Buffalo Wild Wings...and there are MANY more to choose from. 

 

Elk River, Minnesota also offers a YMCA, library, many community events (including Hockey Day Minnesota 2014, The Taste of Elk River and the Sherburne County Fair), churches, golf courses, healthcare clinics, lakes and rivers, and dozens of parks and trails. Elk River, Minnesota is also the Sherburne County seat, with most of the county government buildings along Highway 10 on the north end of town.

 

Elk River, Minnesota is approximately 30 minutes southeast of St. Cloud and approximately 45 minutes northwest of the Twin Cities and does include a stop along the Northstar Commuter Rail.
