Top Ten Rich Cities in the United States

Here is a recent list ranking the top ten richest small towns in America.

The median household and median home value of communities with populations between 30,000 and 80,000 were ranked. Then those towns were judged on a variety of categories – luxury car dealers per capita, country clubs per capita, expensive jewelry stories, fine dining establishments, distance to the nearest polo field, and distance to the nearest yacht club.

1. Bethesda, MD
2. Palo Alto, CA
3. McLean, Virginia
4. Redondo Beach, CA
5. Menlo Park, Calif.
6. Lexington, Mass.
7. Brentwood, Tenn.
8. Foster City, Calif.
9. Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
10. Laguna Niguel, CA
10. Hoboken, New Jersey

Hi Kristin, I love these lists and the rankings. I always wonder what the rankings are  based on people who love and make the small town a wonderful place to live of it is based on per capita income, which doesn't always translate to a happy place to live.

Hi Stacy,

I was surprised that Rancho Palos Verdes came in #9 but at least it was in the top 10. I have been to about 5 of these cities so might try to go to the other 5 in the next year.

Hi Tom,

Yes some of these cities are lovely. I bought my car in Laguna Niguel.

Hi William,

I think some are nice and probably some are not. I have been to small cities that were  so poor and they looked like a run down horse town and some are beautiful and have great stores and homes. I wonder if a few of these towns might be priggish.

No shocker to see 6 of the 10 from CA but was shocked to not see any from CO and also shocked to see Brentwood TN made it

Hi David,

I would think there would be at least one from Colorado too. Maybe the raters do not like the cold weather.

I'm not a bit surprised so many were in California, but was surprised there weren't more on the East Coast.

Hi Bette,

I agree too as there are a lot of rich areas all over the US. Since they are counting country clubs, golf courses, yacht clubs would have been in other places too and Florida has more golf courses than any other state. I guess it just has to do with how many and maybe since CA is so large, they have more of the criteria.
