California Bookstore Day is tomorrow May 3rd, 2014

This is the Annual Geek Day for Readers, Book Lovers and Book Collectors! So if you consider yourself in one of these categories, then please do not miss out and go visit your nearest Independent Bookstore. If you are new to this concept, take my word: Reading is great!!!!

In case you are wondering Diane and I will be visiting one of the nearby book stores. Since it is going to be a hot day we decided not to go far we will go to Small World Book Store in Venice Beach http://www.smallworldbooks.com/ . On the other hand if you want to know which bookstores are participating near you? Then please check out the enclosed link   http://cabookstoreday.com/find-a-bookstore if you cannot find one reach out to your nearest bookstore and see if they are participating.

Here are a few for your convenience to name some:

http://www.booksoup.com/   on the Sunset Strip

http://www.vromansbookstore.com/ in Pasadena

http://www.pagesabookstore.com/  in Manhattan Beach

Enjoy and share with us what new editions you acquired from California Bookstore Day!

Hi Endre - I love bookstores, and this is a great event - worth attending simply in defense of a vanishing institution. Progress marches on and we lose something valuable. I used to spend hours in bookstores - now there aren't any local ones (I can't count Barnes & Noble).

Endre - Who knew it would one day not be the norm to be a fan of a paper, or hard bound book and enjoy reading?  Have fun!

I am so glad that Chief Cook isn't there.  She rarely goes to garage sales, but she stopped at one today and came home with four more hardcover books....the titles are great and one is a first-edition.  I hope she lets me sell it!

I have always loved used book stores.  when I was in graduate school years ago, in Chicago, I used to frequent a book store called 'Great Expectations'.  They had some old lazy boy chairs in a circle and were happy to have customers sit and read.  One day, I struck up a conversation with the fellow next to me and he turned out to be Saul Bellow (a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature)

Michael well said California Bookstore day was a huge success from what I got based on conversation with one of the staff at "Small World Bookstore" in Venice

Tom, between me and Diane it is very hard to get out of a bookstore without three to four books...we have so many books for "future reads" I will have to live 200 years to read them all:))))

Dick absolutely I support all independent bookstores!!! Just check out the AmEx/Bills every mont:))

Laura how sad that is, I read Farenheit 451 when I was in High School...met Ray Bradbury out here in Los Angeles...but this is not how I pictured books fading from society.....

Ron, we have so many first editions first printing....you would have a field day here:))

Eric used, brand new I can not go by without investing....what a great story about Saul Bellow.. sadly I must admit have him on the "future read" list, he was a very colorful character in his love life:))) which book would you recommend to read first? Endre
