Not listening --- cost them a sale today

I went to a dealer to test drive a car I had my eye on. It was a hatchback that had a blind spot so I decided against it. I asked about trying the sedan counter part. They brought me another model thousands more. I drove it, but NOT what I was looking for.

As I was leaving they offered to let me drive the one I wanted. Sorry out of time. I had a house to show that I knew the buyers would like and would make a reasonable offer. They did. Will I be back? Who knows?

Good points. Listening to what people want is very important. I like to repeat back what they tell me to make sure I understand. it proves to be quite beneficial for all parties. Thanks for sharing.

We do need to be good listeners and show buyers what they ask for if it is available, not what we think  they should like. However, sometimes they are blindsided and need to be drawn to other opportunities if what they want on their wish list just isn't available in their price range.

Rule #1 when selling anything is to listen.....find out what the customer wants and show it to them.  It's about what they want, not what you want to sell.
