The Art Museum Neighborhood is one of the city's most popular neighborhoods. Though the neighborhood is mostly residential, there is a main district with shops and restaurants located along Fairmount Avenue. Residents also find numerous restaurants and hotspots interspersed throughout the neighborhood. Some of the local favorites are Lemon Hill, Tria, and Mugshots Coffee. Within the neighborhood, you'll find convenient grocery shopping at the centrally located Whole Foods. There is a fitness center nearby Whole Foods as well as one located on Fairmount Avenue.
Eastern State Penitentiary is one of Philadelphia's favorite tourist attractions. Located in the heart of the neighborhood, Eastern State was shut down in the mid-1970's. Currently, daily tours are offered and, in the weeks leading up to Halloween, the Penitentiary is home to one of the best haunted houses in the country.
The neighborhood is also home to many of Philadelphia's renowned museums including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Rodin Museum, and The Barnes Foundation.
The neighborhood offers a wide variety of homes. Many of the homes in the Art Museum are 3-4 bedroom rowhouses. Many of these homes have been recently updated and it's common to find homes with a main bedroom suite on the 3rd floor. While parking isn't available with most of these homes, there are several rowhouses with parking along the northeast border of the neighborhood. Most of the rowhouses in the neighborhood have a small backyard patio area and some homes offer roof decks.
There are several condominiums in the neighborhood. Art Museum condos include high-rise buildings like 2601 Parkway, The Tower at Tivoli, and The Pennsylvanian as well as numerous smaller condominiums, some with as few as three units.
