The Day I Met Roy Rogers
When I was a kid, Roy Rogers was one of my heroes, he and HopalongCassidy
(Hoppy) were with me every Saturday morning (at the movie show). I wanted
to be just like them.
I met Hoppy at a department store opening in Pasadena when I was about
six years old, but I didn't meet Roy until years later.
Also, when I was young, you could hear people say "I remember when you
could buy a lot in the San Fernando Valley for a hundred dollars.
The San Fernando Valley (or just "The Valley," as it is known) is a northern
suburb of Los Angeles.
Back then, they made cowboy movies in The Valley. It was the old west.
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans had a ranch in Chatsworth, an area of the San
Fernando Valley. It was in Chatsworth where I Met Roy Rogers in 1966..
I had just pulled into the parking lot of White Front (a big box discount store)
when this Cadillac with steer horns on the hood and lots of glittery
embellishments on the sides of the car, parked next to me.
Who should get out but Roy Rogers. We walked into the store together. I
couldn't believe I was actually talking to Roy Rogers.
There was a donut stand just inside the front entrance. Roy went straight
there and bought some donuts. After he left I asked the girl there if she knew
who he was. "Oh sure, that was Roy Rogers, He comes in every day."
The San Fernano Valley
As interesting as this story is, the reason I bring it up is because of the San
Fernando Valley. those $100.00 lots are all gone. Today you would be lucky
to find one for $100,000.00. That's 1000 times the original price.
Actually, those $100.00 lots were an acre in size, which translates into six or
seven lots today. That makes today's price 6,000 - 7,000 times the original
price.
How many times have you heard someone say "I wish I would have bought
such and such back then? We all suffer from 20/20 hindsight. It is easy to
see what we should have done after the fact.
The visionary is the one who "sees" the opportunity before it is proved.
Because once it is proved, the opportunity no longer exists.
Visionary
For the past twenty some years I "sold" a vision of the future. I've been a
Business Broker and Commercial Real Estate Broker for many years. Many people have a
vision of the future. That is why they go into business for themselves.
I look for opportunities and for people to fulfill those opportunities.
So the question is, "Are you a visionary?"
If you answered "yes" or "maybe" please watch my short video.
