Gone but not forgotten. Brookshire Tire on Main St, Searcy AR.

Brookshire Tire Searcy AR DX dealer

What's a DX Dealer?

This ad was in the 1967 Harding College yearbook and states that it was located at 200 S Main in Searcy and gives the phone number and says it is "Your DX Dealer."

I remember the building and knew the owners but I can't remember what DX stood for.  This is now the location of Ralph Haymond's insurance company.  He built a really beautiful building a few years back.  Looking at these two pictures right now makes me wonder if Ralph tore the whole building down or worked around the building that existed.

He probably tore down the old. Often, it's cheaper to start from scratch.

I have NO idea what "DX" is!

DX was a brand of gasoline, like Exxon or Mobil. They had gas stations in the midwest and were bought by Sunoco in the 1980s.

Travis, it may always be cheaper to start from scratch.

Anonymous, thanks for that info about DX.  I have heard of Exxon and Mobil but not Sunoco.

The building was Guy Brookshire's tire store for years. He later sold it to Eddie Warrington who sold the property to Ralph.

Roger, thanks for that bit of history.  It is so easy to forget who once owned properties.
