Never let facts get in the way of a good anti REALTOR story.

Never let facts get in the way of a good anti REALTOR story by Richard WeisserI just read another post on FaceBook post that states the a REALTOR sent an anonymous letter to an elderly couple about how and where they park their car.

And as usual, many agents immediately embarrassed themselves by jumping on the agent bashing bandwagon.

There’s only one problem.

The post did not correctly represent the facts. Because if they did, there wouldn’t be much of a story.

First of all, there was no proof that the note was written by a real estate agent. Anyone, including the homeowner, could have scrawled the note.

Secondly, and most importantly, there is NO way to determine if the writer was a member of the National Association of Realtors.

Third, the news sources that were cited did NOT maker the two errors listed above. The details were added later to make the situation more provocative.

Where is the NAR? Are they protecting our brand? NO!

That’s their job and I’m tired of doing it for them!

Richard, That was kind of my view when I first read the story on Yahoo.  HOW DO THEY KNOW AN AGENT wrote the letter?  They don't.  A neighbor pretending to be an agent who's got a bone to pick with the neighbors could have easily done it.  I can't see an agent writing the letter to start with.  If ONE home with cars parked on the lawn is enough to through the buyers out of buying a home, well they're looking in the wrong neighborhood anyway.  They need an exclusive, gated mansion somewhere instead.  Bill

Bill...

All I am trying to do here is to get people to think before they make a comment. The sad thing is, these stories get credence because they are believable.

Because if a real estate agent can easily be misled into believing it, what chance does the general public have?

Richard, He said, she said. I did not read the article. Even working with my own transactions, I don't really know what the buyer or seller on the other side said, or did.  I only know my side and what others are telling me.  I use the facts (emails and audio recordings) to hold others responsible for their actions.  We would need an army to police people. All we have control over is our own actions.

Richard, should we be surprised? Facts get twisted to fit someone's agenda. Then because we're a little sensitive to getting bashed, we overreact. It's not a good situation.

If we can't sensationalize it then who's going to read it?  Way to many stories on the internet are full of big holes.

The NAR has long abandoned us.  WE are and have been on our own for many years now.
