Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life changed my life in 2004 when I was at the lowest point in my life (Going blind in one-eye at 28, and I can't sell my own house - a shattered pride).
But God really knew how to get my attention.
Through this book (which led me on to Christ), I found that there is a PURPOSE in my LIFE. That there was a reason why God created me. Through that, I've journeyed a new life with my husband for a few years now.
Another big part of my life is Dave Ramsey's ministry. Something that I was never able to comprehend until I had to be in this side of the fence (Step 7). I learned that this life and managing wealth are not about ME. It's not about the house I live in, the car I drive or now, the wealth I build for ME. My mindset has enlarged - only recently because of the place I'm at.
Building wealth now includes seeing beyond fulfilling my own needs. As Dave Ramsey puts it, it's Kingdom Assignment. If I am not where I am today (I dont consider myself "wealthy"), I wont be able to get past the ME syndrome.
For the longest time (since beginning to pay off debt in 2006), it was still was My Me Syndrome and getting rid of my debt. Now building wealth includes making a difference in the Kingdom.
I'm willing to invest because I know what a Christ-like journey it has been for my husband and I and we are willing sacrifice our lives' work and resources so that more people may be able to hear the Good News and from there, create more followers to spread God's love. Isnt that wonderful?
As for my work - most people view me as a workaholic. And one even accused of using God's name for business. Well, I've prayed over it, checked my heart to make sure it's in the right place and that I have not used His name in vain.
People even said, No one at their death beds would have wished they worked more during their lifetimes. That is true - if you view work as "work".
My work is my ministry for God. In case you didn't know, God told me in Kenya that my mission field is in Frisco TX. Until He asks me to do something different, I consider every phone call, every potential client and every person that connects with me through Real Estate as a calling from God to serve.
So, yes, at my death bed - I would never wished I worked more but I would wish, "I could reach one more for Jesus".
Co incidentally, I finished this post at 3:16am.
Thank you for letting me post this from my heart. I know I havent been around much lately.
