First Referral Given on Active Rain! 
One of my favorite things to do is to give out a referral! Truly it is better than getting one yourself.
I received a call from a local realtor. They had a past client who was moving back to California and needed a mortgage. They were a Veteran (if you follow my blog, you know this is my favorite loan), had already found a home and only needed a good mortgage company. Right Trac isn't licensed in California, so I quickly jumped on to Active Rain and looked for a Mortgage Loan Officer that I follow in California. I found one very quickly and made the introduction. I sent a message stating that I had a referral for him via an Active Rain email and I received a phone call response within minutes. I knew at that point that my client would be in good hands. Returning phone calls is one of the most important things that you can do in business... especially real estate.
I connected the client and Paul Collier in Huntington Beach, CA. The client was very happy to be referred to someone local to where he was moving and I was privileged with the opportunity.
Yes, Active Rain works no matter what state you are in. You're never too far away!
