A Tale of Two Rivers, Clark County WA
We enjoyed Mother's Day brunch at the lovely Lewis River Golf Course clubhouse. Views of the surrounding greens, spring flowers, and the Lewis River made it a memorable spot to enjoy delicious food and good company.
The Lewis River is a tributary with two separate branches that merge into the Columbia River in Clark County, Washington. The river is popular for its wide range of outdoor activities from a leisurely lunch at the Lewis River Golf Course along the North Fork to the wild cascading white water on the East Fork. Either experience helps you appreciate the river’s reputation for pure waters and pristine settings.
The North Fork rushes headstrong out of Mt. Adams smack into the Swift, Yale, and Merwin dams, then slowly meanders along the northern border of Clark County. The river is famous for its recreational boating and fishing for hatchery-raised steelhead. Its wilder sibling, the East Fork, crashes and winds unabated through canyons and waterfalls, earning its reputation for challenging whitewater kayaking and native steelhead angling. The East Fork was recently designated a wild steelhead gene bank, halting the release of hatchery fish, marking it as a truly natural, protected river.
East Fork Lewis River Offers Wild Outdoor Adventure
Kayakers will find challenging waterfalls and gorges with adventurous names like Screaming Left and Dragon’s Back along the middle run of the East Fork. For quieter activities, two parks along the East Fork offer easy, scenic hiking trails. Lucia Falls is a 24-acre regional park that features a hiking trail along the north shore and highlights the spectacular Lucia Falls. No swimming is allowed to protect the fish spawning grounds. Moulton Falls State Park, on the other hand, allows seasonal swimming, and offers several easy hiking trails on both sides of the river.
Homes Along the East Fork Lewis River
Homes along the East Fork range from quaint weekend cabins to large luxury homes for year-round residents. Last year, sold homes ranged in price from $75,000 to $622,000. With new setback restrictions for building along the river, buildable lots are at a premium. There are a limited number of spots available right on the water.
