32 year old Lion hiding in my bedroom drawer. Art by Bobby Van Patten.

Take some time off.

Check to see what is hiding in your house.

In my case, I found this 32 year old Lion. (No wonder he looks sad.)  It was made by a Searcy artist, Robert Van Patten, for the 1957 Searcy High School class reunion being held in 1982.  He made 57 of them and this one is #27.  That is called a limited edition art work.  Hubby was one of the folks at the reunion and after returning from the party the lion was dropped in a drawer.  It has now resurfaced and is more appreciated.

Searcy AR lion 32 years old

Bobby Van Patten has passed on.  So has his wonderful mother and father.

Hopefully, sharing this lion will bring back lots of good memories for the folks who were in the 1957 graduating class.  It brings back good memories for me even though I am a transplant  and I'm going to give this lion a better location in our house.

I find things from time to time in places I rarely visit. In my case, most of those are now boxes that I have stored away after moving several times. I have at least one more move in me in the near future, so I know it's still not time to unbox everything.

I've got a garage full of old boxes. HOPEFULLY, I'll find a few treasures in them as well.

I have boxes where I put random items like this. It'll be neat to open years from now and see what knickknacks I wasn't able to part with! That's a great find!

Barbara,

Often objects like this lion can have a lot of sentimental value for people.  That's good you found it in your home.  Hopefully, it brought back some good memories for you!

Barbara, what a wonderful keepsake!  Seeing SHS on the back reminded me of my high school (Stratford High School in Houston) which also was abbreviated SHS. :)  Was your school mascot a lion?

Cliff, it would be nice to hear from folks who were there and what their numbers are.  Several are probably lurking in hidden spots just as Rodger's was.  It is sad to think that Bobby Van Patten has died.

Donna, a treasure it was.  Go searching at your house!!

Barbara, you know I have a lot of mementos lurking in drawers, boxes, jars, shelves, and who knows where else. I wouldn't know how to live without them. I think the oldest may be this Firestone key fob I found when I was about 8 years old and living at 303 N. Main across from the First Methodist Church.
