Will Hamm's What's the first thing you do every business morning? post is what inspired me to write my own POWER HOUR post simply because my POWER HOUR is so different from the ones I read on his post.
After I have my breakfast my POWER HOUR is one hour of walking first thing every morning. Because of my discipline to walk, several people have asked to walk with me so that I can motivate them to walk; I always let everyone know that I need to walk alone. I divide my POWER HOUR as follows.
The first part of my POWER HOUR is devoted to gratitude. I thank the Lord for the beautiful day, for a good night sleep, for my wonderful breakfast, for being healthy enough to walk, for the people in my life, for the small mundane things we take for granted, and for all the good things that happened the day before. I ask for help and guidance for this day and for any challenges I might be confronting today.
The second part of my POWER HOUR involves planning my day. What is on my to do list; calls I need to make, emails I need to write, appointments I need to set or attend, prospecting I need to do, subjects I want to blog about, marketing campaigns to implement, etc. This sets the framework for my day.
The last part of my POWER HOUR is all about working mentally on personal or business situations. If there is a difficult transaction, I think about my options and which would be the best to take. I put myself in the other person’s shoes and try to see things from their point of view. I come up with strategies about how I will approach a situation or person. This last part is very productive and usually lets me see things much more clearly.
While I walk, alone, quiet, with all that blood moving around, my creative juices really get going! On those rare days that either because it’s raining or I’ve had to set an early morning appointment and I don’t get to have my POWER HOUR, I really feel off that day. I don’t seem to function as organized and efficiently as I normally do; I know something is missing.
And even though I feel most of the benefit to my walking POWER HOUR is mental; I’m sure it’s great for my body too! Give it a try - let me know how it works for you.
