Spring has finally graced us with its presence. This winter was a brutal one for much of the country. I hope everyone has started to thaw out. This month is one of the very best times to fish the keys. Come down, warm up, and spend some time on the water.

If variety is the name of the game this month, then action would have to be the theme. Whether you prefer to fish inshore or offshore, just about every species found in the keys can be caught this month. This is a good time of year to let the weather dictate your fishing.

When the weather is warm and winds have a southernly flow, its time to dust off the trolling rods and head out for dolphin. This month you are looking for quality not quantity.  Most fish will be found under birds this time of year, so keep an eye out and keep the radar tuned. If you are lucky enough to find a lone frigate bird working hard, then you have hit the jack pot. These big dolphin are usually chasing flying fish and can be hard to get a bait in front of. Be patient and try to keep your baits under the bird and you will be rewarded.

If the winds are up, this month will be a good one to spend some time at the bridges and on the patch reefs. Snapper are the main target, but if you have a live well full of shrimp, then non stop action is all but guaranteed. A jig head will help get your bait down and offer a good presentation. You can fish the patch reefs and bridges in a similar fashion. Anchor up current and drift your baits back to the structure with just enough weight to reach bottom. Good Luck & Good Fishing
