I've lived and worked in the Silver Spring, MD area for a decade now but never had the opportunity to dine at Mrs. K's Toll House on Route 29 in Silver Spring, MD. I have driven by hundreds of times and probably thought "I must eat there" just as many but it just never happened.
Until today that is. I was in the area for an appointment and had made plans with a past client turned friend to meet up for lunch. Mrs. K's!!
Mrs. K's is a fixture in the Silver Spring (dining) community with distinct character and quite the history. It used to be a Toll House back in the day, before Route 29 became Colesville Road and horses and carriages were the mode of transportation.
I absolute love the house - full of vintage charm and a large collection of antiques which are displayed throughout the restaurant - and beautiful garden.. The wine cellar is spectacular, the view lovely and the staff was very attentive (although I did have some trouble understanding them sometimes).
We chose a table right by the window and I got to enjoy the view while talking to my friend ... so much so that I forgot to take pictures of the food. I had Edamane Potstickers with Soy Sauce (yum!) as an appetizer and a Caesar Salad with Salmon (the latter wasn't as crispy as I prefer but delicious nonetheless). I didn't have room for a "sweet ending" but my friend tried the Kit Kat Bars (crunchy hazelnut mousse) and by the way he devoured it, I would assume it was quite tasty.
I don't think it will take me another 10 years to eat at Mrs. K's Toll House again!
