Friday, May 2, 2014 was the offical groundbreaking ceremony for the National Coast Guard Museum In New London, CT. This was a historic event because this will be the first and only National Coast Guard Museum in the U.S. The home of the National Coast Guard Museum will be Downtown New London, and within walking distance of my New London office.
The National Coast Guard Museum will consist of a four story, 54,000 square foot building. Each floor will have interactive exhibits, event space, and lecture rooms, as well as a reception area with a gift shop and cafe.
Along with the National Coast Guard Museum, the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle, whose picture is at the end of this blog, will make the City Pier adjacent to the Museum its home when it is in port. The U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle will be a perfect complementary feature to the Museum.
A pedestrian overpass will be built across the railroad tracks which will connect the Museum and a new ferry terminal. The pedestrian overpass will also connect the Museum with the North Bound Amtrak Platform which will make it easy for visitors traveling from longer distances to get to the Museum.
An official construction and completion date has not been given yet, but construction of the National Coast Guard Museum In New London, CT. is expected to start soon. Once construction begins I hope to take pictures on a regular bases of the progress being made since the site of the National Coast Guard Museum In New London, CT. is withing walking distance of my office in New London, CT.
