Termites??  This post inspired by an article today by Doug Jones about tenting his home.

I've been selling real estate for many years, decades.  Before that I was engaged in title work with a local attorney.  I can't imagine many scenarios I haven't seen.  One thing is universal.

If a home for sale is inspected for termites and the result is positive, you can bet your boots that, rarely has the owner practiced any kind of termite prevention.  I've seen termite inspections whereby the very structure, sill plates, support beams, etc. were riddled with termites.  The owners always appear surprised.  Oh well.

Background:  I live in the sticks of Loudoun county.  My home is at the top of a steep slope.  In order to avoid the risk of injury to anyone who would have to cut grass that the hill, I applied a ground cover and over that a 3 inch layer of mulch.  There are a number of shrubs planted and a few pieces of Granite accents.  The Granite rocks were rescued when the builder excavated the home site.  I managed to save a few before the construction manager hauled them away to sell to a local company that would sell those beauties for $300-$500 each.  Rocks have value.

Back to the termites.

Knowing that termites love mulch, yes there's a layer bordering the foundation of my home too, I engaged a company to inspect for termites regularly as soon as the mulch went down.  I originally contacted them about mice.  The critters were everywhere, all night long.  I tried unsuccessfully to control them myself with traps and sticky paper.  It was a losing battle.  I needed an expert and that's where Keith came in.

As long as he was going to get rid of the mice, why not prevent termites at the same time?

See:  TERMITES.   DON'T LET THESE CRITTERS EVEN TRY TO MOVE IN.

The secret to avoiding termite infestation or damage, DON'T LET THE CRITTERS MOVE IN.

Keith visits every 3 months and keeps my home free of termites AND mice.

Keeping the termites away is the best practice Lenn. A professional can help in informing the owner of what to do and not do around the house.
