Colorado foreclosure filings up 21% in April

Well, the numbers are in and it looks like Colorado's foreclosure-filing rate in April rose 21% from April 2013. You may be asking yourself what a foreclosure filing is. A foreclosure filing is the set of initial documents that are used to start the foreclosure process. These documents are first filed with the county public trustee's office, and the process ends with the property in question being sold at auction unless the debt related to the property is repaid.

This past April, there were 1,403 properties with foreclosure filings across the state, which comes out to about one in every 1,574 households. This puts us right in the middle compared to states across the nation, at having the 26th highest foreclosure-filing rate.

Nationwide, 115,830 properties had foreclosure filings in April, down 20 percent from a year earlier.
