Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Emergency Services for Kids
Late Sunday evening, my twenty-two month old son Vincent had his first emergency room visit. Beginning in the late afternoon his began to complain that his eyes were bothering him. Basically he would squeeze his eyes shut and scream “Eyes, Eyes”!
My husband and I thought maybe he got something in his eyes and we began to rinse them with cool running water. We repeated this several times. He remained whinny until bedtime even crying out a few times in his sleep. Then he woke up screaming and his left eye looked like he had been socked in it! Well, enough of the home remedies we are going to the emergency room.
I have lived in the metro Atlanta area for many years, while my husband relocated here just under 5 years ago after we got married. This means I am driving because I am very familiar with the city and it’s many suburbs. I wanted to take Vincent to the best emergency room for kids. I knew the nearest children’s hospital would be Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Scottish Rite) in Sandy Springs, GA. However, when you are panic stricken your normal knowledge base can easily become very foggy and distant. By God’s grace and mercy we made it to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Scottish Rite).
We received the most compassionate and speedy care a parent could want for their child. While we were not the only people there in the middle of the night we experienced absolutely NO WAIT! Our car was valet parked, checked in, and initially evaluated by a nurse in less than five minutes. In fact, the doctor had diagnosed Vincent and gone to get him a prescription BEFORE we were ever registered!
There were many extras I am not mentioning in an effort to keep the focus on this call to action. If you have children make sure you know where the nearest children’s hospital is located. In fact you should add this information into your smart phones and GPS systems. Please take a moment to do this. There is no better time than right now. I hope you never have to use it, but I rather you have if the occasion arises.
Thank you to each and every person that assisted my family at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Scottish Rite) for what turned out to be a minor ailment for my son Vincent. We are truly grateful and appreciative.
