Dinner and a Crow

Dinner and a Crow

CrowWe had dinner sitting on the outdoor deck of the Bayport Inn in Weeki Wachee the other night when I noticed this crow.

It was checking out the floor under the tables for forgotten goodies and even flew over to the bussing station to take a peak around for some tasty leftovers.  It was quite entertaining!

Left to its own devices and well after five o'clock, it seems it was wondering whether it would ever get some service around there?

Crows are pretty smart birds.  For an eyeopening glimpse into how smart they really are, take a look at this website about "Six Terrifying Ways Crows are Way Smarter Than You Think!"

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon Silvia,

He should have gone to the bar for Happy Hour! Yes they are smarter than we think.

I now have a hawk (red tailed) that sits on the deck in the morning and waits for me to fill the bird feeder; as soon as I am about twenty feet away he goes over and starts eating for about five minutes; have tried to take a picture of him but as soon as the camera or phone comes out he high tails it out of here.

Make yourself a great day.

Raymond, maybe he had bad experiences with things being pointed at him?  Maybe you need to set up the camera somewhere where he won't see it. Good luck!

Silvia,

Yes, they are.  This time of the year they are building nests across from us, and I have seen them flying with big twigs, bigger than their bodies.  I also see them chasing hawks and squawking all the way.  A

Hi Silvia,

I think all birds are especially smart or they would starve and many must be smarter as they tend to steal food from fellow birds. I think Crows are extremely smart and interesting enough where I live, we have owls and hawks everywhere but they do not mess with the crows. Some of the crows are probably bigger than juvenile hawks and the owls. Every since the movie "The Birds" I have been nervous around crows.

Mark, they learn as they go along!

Alexandra, I always get a kick out of crows "talking".

Debbie, I think you're right about that!

Bruce, glad you enjoyed it.  I was amazed by it.

George, smart enough to know where the food is!

Kathleen, the server said it was a "regular".

Kristin, they do get pretty big and they have an impressive beak, too!

Lisa, that's funny!

I recently had an entire flock of them outside my office in the trees.  They stayed about two days before moving on, they were very interesting to watch.

Tammy, I get a kick out of them talking to each other.  They also seem to have a pretty good memory which I didn't know before.

VB, thank you for the group feature.  Some animals are associated with bad things through no fault of their own... :-)

Hello again Silvia ... you may just be right! When I was hiking at Red Rock today there were to huge crows standing on a a rock looking at Las Vegas from a very far distance, it was so weird and I walked up very slow to them. I was about 4 feet from them trying so hard to figure why they were standing on this rock? By the looks of it they stand her all the time because there were bird droppings by the rock.

I had heard crows were smart, but I hadn't seen this information before.

Most animals learn to adapt to their environment or they don't survive.
