As a Veteran of the United States Army it makes me proud when I think of Memorial Day but it also makes me sad for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and for their families. I believe we live in the GREATEST Country in the World. I was fortunate to have served without seeing any Combat, my MOS was Finance. My respect and admiration go out to all who have and are currently serving.
I think about the injustice that was done to our returning Vets from Vietnam, as if the war was their fault. They were just serving their country.
We are now in the middle of several conflicts, wars, skirmishes or whatever name they want to give it. Our men and women are still in the line of fire, still risking their lives for our Country, and thank GOD we still have people that feel THIS COUNTRY is worth FIGHTING for. As Americans we have a FREE ENTERPRISE system that works because of our FREEDOMS.
So when I think of Memorial Day, I don't think of B-B-Q's or Sales at the Malls, or an extra day off of work. I think of and thank GOD for the men and women of this country who continue to FIGHT so that the rest of the country can think of the BBQ's and Sales and Days off.
