To show his gratitude for the care his father received before his passing, the son donated a piano to Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The only question was how to get it delivered. Enter the movers Jacksonville, Fl.

Such prized possessions require experienced professionals as well as proper equipment. Not only are pianos heavy but their finishes are vulnerable to scratches. Special handling is required to protect the instrument’s fragile inner workings, too. Also, it’s important to close and lock the keyboard and wrap the piano with padding. Lastly, ensure the piano will fit through the door opening, said the movers Jacksonville, Fla.

Because the nursing and rehab center in St. Augustine, Fla., has double doors, it was delivered to the dining room “flawlessly’’ and residents immediately began to enjoy it, said Mary Ann Milar, a former nurse manager at the center. Often, someone will come in to entertain the residents and the piano is put to use, Milar said, adding that her sister, a professional pianist from Pittsburgh, once played a variety of musical selections on the instrument, including classical and Broadway.

Milar said the piano benefits all the residents, recalling one in particular. A 66-year-old-old woman musician who’d had a stroke and was left paralyzed on one side was able to play the piano with one hand. The stroke didn’t affect that part of her brain that controlled “musicality,” Milar said, adding that before the piano’s arrival the woman had been “depressed” but was ‘happy” she could play the piano again.
