Blog Editor - What Say You?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain

The ActiveRain Community produces thousands and thousands of blog posts each month.  Wouldn't it be great if the process of writing a blog was even better than it is now?

In order for us to take a look at options, we need to know what you think.

  • What features do you love now?
  • What features are missing?
  • What would you change?
  • What features do you love on other sites you use that would be helpful here?
  • What ideas do you have to simplify the writing a blog editor?

Since I write my posts in Word and convert them to html in an editor, I post in the html source box and edit in the wysiwyg box. Not a problem for me.

I wish the draft editor not keep the date the first draft was written/input but the date it is posted, like the draft function used to do.

Turning Houses into Homes

I would like file folders for things I bookmark or a way for me to tag them.  I might want to bookmark something for SEO and something else for Open Houses.  It is hard to keep things sorted.  In many forums you can respond to individual threads and some threads generate interesting coversations on their own.  So instead of responding to comments in the general comment section I could hit a comment and do a response attached to that comment.  Then someone else could come along and join in.  I find arranging the photos very difficult in the new system.

The size of the fonts doesn't always hold true and paragraphs get spaced awkwardly.  The blog ends up with paragraphs looking different from each other. I use NVU as an HTML editor and paste into AR source code.

As most above have posted - the photo editor is "turribull" (to quote Sir Charles Barkley).

Also, a few more fonts.

Critically, I give strong support to the comments of BLIZ (1), Kathleen (2), Margaret (7), Kathy (11) and Jeff Dowler.

Important also is Jeff's first line. Thanks for asking!

There are also so many great things about ActiveRain and the community.....

  • The resources
  • The training
  • The group structure
  • The ability to do things here that many would not be technically competent to do on their own (or maybe not have the time to master on their own).
  • The support.

First - I agree with all who say this photo editor was a step backward. It's simply terrible. Many times I just skip adding a graphic because I don't have the time to fool with it.

I also agree with Gene that it would be fun to be able to comment on other comments. This is a feature I enjoy on other sites.

One of my biggest complaints - and I've told you this before - is that it is difficult tofind other members. Since Active Rain is supposed to be a resource for people searching for an agent in a specific location, that information should be EASY for anyone to find, even if it's their first visit to the site.

Something I would love... the same function my Wordpress blog offers: the ability to schedule a post to be released at a later date and time.

What do I already love here? The people, of course!

I am sure I am on the only one to say this but I don't like the photo editor. Just kidding, I read the previous remarks but the photo editor is bad. I do like how easy it is to post a youtube.com video though.

I blog on several sites and have two interactive websites with daily blogs. AR has THE most difficult platform..photos as well as the limited/confusing AR titles vs. outside titles. Just way too difficult to encourage me to use it more often. And that makes me mad since it costs money!!

I bow to those who have already posted - photo editor, font and size controls... big improvements are possible.

thanks for asking.

I like the new editor.  However, it sometimes goes awry in formatting and it's difficult to get back to where you want it.  The best solution I've found is to perfect my post in Word before copying into AR.  Improvement on the functions that already exist may be enough.

I just want what is available to work.  Having a post disappear after spending 1/2 hour writing it isn't fun.

Love whatever AR does - however, some enhancements may be good - like uploading the pictures etc. Otherwise I am so used to current AR that any change scares me!

Oh yes, default home page used to be 'bloghome', if I remember correctly. Though many members prefer featured posts I guess.

I like the new editor. It's way more universal than the old one. I don't worry so much about photos because I usually embed mine with the original image stored on Google. There are only a couple of things that cause me pause.

1. the ability to change fonts (or did I miss something?)...

2. If you use a table in your html to position your photo next to the text, the <td> that includes the text </td> uses a different font than the default text in the body of your post.

Not a big thingy, but it would make life better, faster, easier for me if the default text font were the same regardless...

We're so blessed here... Thank you for a wonderful community, site improvements, and your openess and support. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much for asking:

The photo editor is the biggest issue right now. The way things are now are so much more difficult than before, and I don't even know how to wrap text around my photo.

Also, I would have to agree with others in regards to the formatting of my AR blog and my outside blog. They should be the same so when you write one post, it doesn't look different/odd on the outside blog, while looking fine on the AR blog.

Lastly, I would like to see an opportunity for using different fonts as well.

I guess I'm in the minority re: photo editor.  I hated it at first, but I've come to understand how to use it and it works just fine for me.  I don't have any problem inserting pictures exactly where I want them in my posts.  What I would like is the ability to organize the pics and delete them after using them.  This probably isn't even an option, so I've just come to accept it as is.

I would like the DRAFT feature to actually work.  I hate having to cut and paste into a fresh "new Post" so it doesn't get buried because I wrote it three days earlier.

I don't get the smiley faces at all....why do we need those????

Open in a new window should be link default.

When a post is reblogged, it's too much trouble getting to the original post.
