The Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood has seen a number of changes over the last decade plus.  Today the neighborhood is a thriving urban village, offering restaurants (such as Silo, Engine House, Bus Boys and Poets and about 40 other places to eat), grocery store (24 hour Safeway), gyms, offices, other shopping opportunities, all the items you would think of or need in an urban location.

Originally the area was full of Victorian-style townhomes in the early 1900s but went through a period of decline and in 1977 DC government used eminent domain to purchase large areas of land in the neighborhood to begin redevelopment.  The first Washington Convention center was constructed nearby at New York, 9th Street, H Street and 11th Street NW, in 1980, and at the time of completion the 800,000 SF building was the fourth largest facility in the US at the time. In 2002, the city and developers started further re-developing the neighborhood and established the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (CID) in 2004.

555 Mass Ave NW Condo

Mount Vernon Triangle is bordered by New York Avenue to the north, New Jersey Avenue to the east, Massachusetts Avenue to the south and Seventh Street  to the west.  The neighborhood takes its name from Mount Vernon Square, which is across from the Washington Convention Center and is home to Carnegie Library.  Being in the heart of the city, offers many transportation options.  It is an easy walk to many locations in the city, Capital Bikeshare has several stations in the neighborhood, and three metro stations are nearby (Gallery Place with the red, green and yellow lines, Metro Center with the red, blue and orange lines and Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center with the yellow and green lines).  The neighborhood being along New York Avenue, there is access to 395 going both north towards Baltimore and south to Virginia and Union Station is further down Massachusetts Avenue to the east.
