Chatham's 12th Annual Retrofest

May 23-24/2014

Chatham's 12th Annual Retrofest 2014 began with  the OLG Classic Car Cruise on Friday evening May 23. They assembled at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond St. where they proceeded at 7 P.M. to make their way down Richmond St. to the Bloomfield Rd and then to Riverview Line where they cruised along the Thames River to the Prairie Siding Bridge, over the river and back along Grand River Line on the Dover side of the Thames, ending in Downtown Chatham. My wife and I, family and friends   watched from our front yard. Our 2 small grandsons particularly enjoyed waving at all the occupants of the cars, many of whom tooted their horns at them. I am told the Cruise Route was lined with people from start to finish. I do not know the exact number but it was quite a show and lasted until well after 8 P.M. Apparantly the number of vintage cars (1989 and older) surpassed last year.

There was a Free Family Movie (Disney Planes) in Tecumseh Park at dusk. There was also a Benefit Show at the St. Clair College Capitol Theatre, Rack'n Roll with several bands and our own Brooklyn Roebuck.

Saturday May 24, Historic DowntownKing St. Retrofest /14 King St. in Chatham was lined with Classic Cars from Third St. to William St. and even the side streets. The car owners were on hand to tell the visitors all about their prize possessions and the history of the vehicle. The street was filled with car enthusiasts from all over enjoying the show. We even met old friends from St. Catherines area who drove their vehicle down for the weekend.Tecumseh Park had Food, Merchandise Vendors, Balloon Rides, a Mechanical Bull, Jousting, Bumper Cars, a Superslide and even a Boucy Castle.

This year instead of having a concert in the park as usual, the organizers St.Clair College Chatham Capitol Theatredecided to utilize our beautiful St. Clair College Capitol Theatre in Historic Downtown Chatham. Saturday Evening at 8 P.M. the #1 North American McCartney/Beatles and Wings Band took the stage to perform their show 'The McCartney Years'Unfortunately we could not attend but I heard it was great!
