Fitz's American Grill & Bottling Works -- Saint Louis, MO

Fitz's Root Beer first appeared in St. Louis at a local drive-in restaurant in 1947 and has since become a local tradition.

Today, you can visit their restaurant and soda bottling line in the Delmar Loop area of University City -- a suburb of Saint Louis, Missouri.  Many visitors come to sample the gigantic root beer floats.

We enjoyed visiting Fitz's and the Delmar Loop -- a ten-block area of quaint shops, restaurants and a renovated movie theater from the 1930s.

Here are some photos which display the soda botttling process:

The bottling line from the 1940s was very cool -- reminds one of the opening scenes from Laverne and Shirley!

A root beer float would hit the spot.

Good luck and success.

Hi, Andrea -- I noticed the pattern on the wall, too.  It reminded me of the carbonated bubbles in the soda.

Hi, Lou -- the root beer floats are enormous.  A big, cold mug of root beer with about 4 or 5 scoops of ice cream around the rim.

Root beer floats were a big treat when I was a kid. One year we made our own root beer - loved it. I'm sure this would be a fun tour - and delicious too!
