An Unexpected Surprise While Showing Property Saturday...Eeeeek

I took a buyer who wanted to see a big house in the Redlands area yesterday. So we went to see the house and he didn't really like it so we were driving around and going to another home I had made an appointment to show him.

An unexpected surprise while showing property

Well, he was driving as he prefers it that way so I was shocked when he abruptly slammed on the brakes and jumps out. I was not sure what was happening as this man is not emotional or hysterical and very calm normally.

Sure enough in the middle of the road was a huge snake all coiled up. Well you know me, I grabbed my phone and jumped out to take a photo or two or three. Here he is trying to slink away.

Here is his resting spot and I did lighten up the picture but it is still hard to see this guy. He is hiding around the white post. Really hard to see so what a surprise for an unexpected person or critter walking down the street. EEEEEK.....

My client wondered  if this area of Redlands had a lot of snakes. I  said I was not sure but figured  there was snakes everywhere in California.

Hi Kristin -- snakes are not one of my favorite things in the world but we certainly run into many things while showing property.

Good morning Kristin,

I have a family of grass snakes that scare the h*** out of me going around the corner of the house while mowing; but at least I do not have moles in the yard!

Make yourself a great day.

He does look huge. I came home a couple of weeks ago and saw a chicken snake trying to scaffold up the side of my house to get to a bird's nest. I did like you did and took a photo.

Hi Michael,

I would rather run into a snake than a squatter. As the pictures show, he was trying to get away and was not interested in approaching us.

Hi Ramyond,

Well it is nice that you respect each other and have learned to tolerate each other's surroundings.

Hi Debbie,

Oh I guess the snakes want to get the bird's eggs? It is funny how many of us grab a camera when we see something interesting to share.

Mr Snakee came in the wrong time. But I still love that you were ready to snapshot the moment, Kristin!

Hi Patty,

I guess he heard about the open house but wasn't allowed in since he didn't have an invitation.

I'm pretty sure it's a gopher snake.  They look really close to Rattle snakes, but their heads are a little different.  I'm not terribly afraid of snakes, once I identify if they are friend or foe.  Gopher snakes can really keep the rodent population down.

Hi Myrl,

Once I was digging up the big red worms in my yard and putting them into a big planter to make the soil much richer. I would grab a couple and then walk 5 ft to put them in the planter. When I was carrying this one big worm, I knew from the feel that it was not a worm. I dropped it in the pot and saw it go down into the dirt in the planter. I was just sick and now was afraid to garden in this pot. I left it at the house when I moved because I was afraid it was inside. Probably had left months before but made me sick. It was a garden snake and not a poisonous snake but still ....... ..........eeeeek.

snakes are scary eeeeeeeekkk

Kristin, there is no doubt in my mind that I have ophidiophobia —  the fear of snakes.  I cannot walk certain places in my yard, go in the garden shed, or reach for something hidden in the corner of the garage without fear of touching one!  It's huge problem as I feel I'm missing so much because of the fear. Ooh

Hi Bette,

I do not have that fear but I guarantee I would not get much closer than 8 feet and if it was a poisonous snake, much further. I do not like snakes...

I just saw on television ,in India I think, they have a new massage where people lay down and a Boa wraps themselves around the person and massages them. That will last until a person is killed. Sounds really scary to me.

Kristin, I do not like snakes and we do have them here in Florid. But worse than snakes are the alligators that sneak up into our backyards and into our pools. Once my daughter (also my Broker) was into her daily 5 mile run and thought she had just jumped over a small log on the sidewalk only to realize she had just jumped over an alligator.

Hi Jane,

My husband and his parents lived in Florida when he was young and he told me he used to have to check in the pool before they went swimming since the alligators used to get in it. That would be real scary and I am sure your daughter was freaked out when she realized what she had done.

We have a lot of snakes here,Kritin, in the woods and swamps. Mainly they are harmless but some are not.
