There are so many types and models of sprinkler systems out there to the extent that it is difficult to tell which system is better than the other. Whereas plumbers will advise you to choose a sprinkler system that is capable of sending large drops of water closer to the ground , this is however only possible if you know different types of sprinklers systems along with what they are good for and most importantly their ability to conserve water. Below are different types of sprinkler systems that are worthy being conversant with.

Traditional automatic spray system

Spray Sprinkler System

Pop-up spray heads are some of the traditional automatic spray systems. These systems are normally adjusted to apply water by spraying in a full circle, quarter circle or semi circle.

They are good at spraying plants that need a lot of water. However, they are not water efficient in comparison to other types of sprinkler systems. They can also release a lot of water such that it will be almost impossible for the soil to retain the water.

Soak Hoses

Majority of gardeners use soak hoses. They are ideal for watering individual plants and dense plants as well. You can easily customize a soak hose to your garden by simply attaching it to a solid hose. By doing this, you will avoid wasting water through watering unwanted areas.

Rotor Systems

Rotary Sprinklers

The sprinkler system is typically more efficient as compared to most sprinkler systems out there. It releases water at a slower rate than most systems, hence enabling the soil to efficiently absorb moisture. They are suitable for watering small turf areas though there are some rotors that are specially designed for purposes watering relatively bigger areas.

The radius and watering patterns are adjustable, hence making rotor system a great sprinkler system to water odd-shaped areas.

Drip Systems

Drip IrrigationDrip irrigation offers a highly water efficient way of irrigating a wide array of plantings. It is a perfect choice when it comes to watering in clays soils, thanks to the fact that they release water very slowly. This in return allows the soil to completely absorb water. Drip sprinkler system uses a relatively smaller fraction of water than other devices such as overhead spray devices. It is comprised of a drip tubing which is laid throughout the planting bed in order to water the base of all the plants. I personally am a really big fan of rotor systems. I used to love them as a child because i felt like they were chasing me when i would play with them. I guess my preference has just carried on. I hope that it will make sense to get those when i have my own house in the future.
