How Now Not-so-Brown Newport Cow?

I am traveling in Rhode Island for business, and then 5 days vacation on Cape Cod. Currently I am in the Newport area, and after dinner last night, and then again today, took a drive around the famed Newport mansions and "cottages."

It was very cloudy, rainy and a bit foggy so the views were not so spectacular, but I came upon a massive farm (I'm sure it has a name - it might be the Hammersmith Farm, childhood home of Jackie Kennedy) with these cows in the field in the pouring rain. They were worth stopping to grab a pic despite being way off in the distance. They were huge (they were well over a hundred feet from me)!

Li - well this farm was spectacular to see, even in the rain. Pristine, including the cows. I had never seen cows of this size or color - it was a MUST STOP photo opp

Patty - I noticed that as well. Almost looks painted on

Jeff, It's a pretty drive around the point of the island and back.  Liz and I lived there for 9 months right after my Annapolis graduation while I attended training schools before heading to my first ship assignment.

The correct name of these animals "Dutch Belts". Not very common throughout the country. Nice photo.

Lynn - yes the winter weather was the main issue since I still have a fondness for the Boston area and this wonderful trip rekindled that. BUt man those winters...

Thanks, Joe. I hadn't gotten around to looking them up. But I will still think of them as Oreo cows. LOL

Pat -makes you wonder. THey were such fun to see

Jeff, Oreo is a great moniker for these cows, but like most I've never seen them before. They do, however, remind me of large sows that have very similar markings.

Nick - I have seen a lot of cows in my day from places I have lived but these were a novelty. Despite the rain I HAD to get a pic. And the name OREO is perfect

Cindy - it was perfect. Such fun to visit so many good friends and places where we spend so much time over almost 20 years.

Myrl - Panda cows!

Pamela - I wondered too, but had not gotten around to looking them up

Kathy - pretty funny!

Jeff, you got me, I love a good cow picture! We don't have any here this year so I am missing my morning dose, very sad indeed.
