Google Adwords & Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with Firebird Realty

We have thought about spending advertising money on Google Ad-words for quite some time now.  Well being the research monkey I am, I have studied this for sometime.  I think that at this time, spending money with google adwords may be a waste of time and more importantly money.  It seems to me that not only are too many people doing it, but that for the money, you can get better results not using AdWords.  Below are some links to websites that talk a little about why it may not be a good idea.   One thing is for sure, there are plenty of companies out there who are trying to take advantage of advertisers.  I have seen prices over $1000 just to submit the same info you provide them.  What do you think about the whole thing? Do you advertise with Google adwords?

Thanks for doing all the homework for me I have been trying to determine to spend or not to spend what is the right answer. It seems you feel that it is best not to spend

Well I am not saying that it is entirely a bad idea, it jsut seems like something that can get very expensive very quick, if you don't stay on top of it.

Hi Dane and Jackie,

Thanks for the information, I will certainly check into those sites.  I do know one thing for sure, there are certainly lots of pushy salesmen offering to PUT you ON the front page of GOOGLE.  I have received so many calls lately for that, but declined.  Thanks for doing some homework for all of us.  Nadine Blakely, RE/MAX, Lynchburg, VA

I advertise with adwords and yes it can get very expensive. The good thing is you can set up a budget a day. I was doing general ads (one for market snapshot and the other for mls search) and doing them nationwide and it got really expensive and I was not seeing a good return for my investment. I did several specific ads (one for area home rentals and one for current hud deals) and did them for the area only and these have been returning a great return. I changed my general ads to be for area residents only and the return is better but not as good as the others. The analytics programs are great and you can always tweak the ads based on what keywords are returning etc. It's worth trying even if you set a small budget per day because you can analyze it more after you have it in place then seeing what works for others. Hope this helps!

Thanks for this blog with the links.  I've wondered about this and didn't think that it made a lot of sense either in terms of marketing dollars.  I'll have to check this out too.

I found that AdWords was a necessary thing for me since I have a new website that hasn't had a chance to make its way up the natural rankings.  One thing that I did find out is to not pay a company to manage the account - I had several of these companies contact me and I decided to try to manage the account myself.  I'm glad that I did because I have easily managed to keep top rankings for searches in my area for 50 - 75% less per month than what they were going to charge me!
