I woke up the other morning and saw that I had a private message on Twitter. It was from Movoto Blog, and it said that Fort Wayne was voted the fifth most boring city.
1. I don't know who Movoto Blog is, so there's that.
2. Really? Fort Wayne is boring? Based on what?
Then I read the blog...
"The population was decidedly older, there was not much nightlife or fine dining options per capita, and there were very few music venues scattered throughout the city. This city is rather pretty, and if you're looking for a place to kick back and relax there are worse places to go. But if you want to be wild and crazy and you're not there during a festival, you're probably out of luck."
I'm assuming the author is talking about me when she refers to "older." No really, I'm okay with that. I'm a middle aged man just around the corner from my mid life crisis. I see a sports car in my near future...
Back to Fort Wayne being "boring."
FINE DINING. Amanda and I haven't eaten meat or dairy in almost two years now. Our definition of "fine dining" is our favorite place, The Loving Cafe. It's a veg/vegan restaurant that is the happiest place on earth.
I know there are plenty of fine dining options for those that do eat meat, including Chops, Club Soda, and many others.
MUSIC VENUES. Last time I checked, there's live music going on almost every night of the week. How about Rock the Plaza every Saturday night during the warmer days? How about The Embassy? Oh... and that little old building called the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum? I'm pretty sure there's some big acts that have come through there.
NIGHTLIFE. I don't even know what this means since I'm older. I'm normally in bed by 8:30. Seriously though, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of nightlife in Fort Wayne for the younger crowd.
Back in my day Pierre's was the hot spot. I think it's still open but I haven't been there since a concert a few summers ago.
What about downtown Fort Wayne? The city has made major changes downtown over the last 10 years and that place is HOPPING! With the new Tin Caps stadium, the numerous events that are held almost weekly, and the many trendy and hip restaurants and bars, there's always something to do!
What about the art museums, the children's zoo, Buskerfest, the Three Rivers Festival, the River Greenway, Art in the Park, the Mad Ants and the Komets??
I could go on and on, but I think you get my point.
I absolutely love this city. We've thought about moving south a few times when the weather has been colder, but we aren't going anywhere.
Fort Wayne is our home.
As I read more of the blog, I see that the author is critical of many other cities and their lack of night life. If THAT'S what makes a city boring, so be it. Color me bored...
I need to wrap things up guys. It's 10:30 am. Almost lunch time followed by my afternoon nap. I need my rest for our shuffleboard match this afternoon...
