New Invention - Monitoring Green House Gases on Existing Homes
As an agent concerned with environmental issues and the effect that homes have on our environment, I'd love it if a device was designed and installed on homes to reduce green house gases! Maybe someone has thought of this device, but I haven't seen it publicized yet.
This so called "device" would monitor all of the systems and components of a home and read like a thermoment, showing the green house gases that are emitted into the environment. As crazy as this sounds, imagine that our homes are the largest contributor to green house gases.
According to EnergyStar.gov, a volunteer program with the EPA, Energy Star homes and Commercial buildings have cut green house gases significantly and the number is staggering. But how can a single homeowner take pride or ownership of their contribution? If a device was created that monitored the results, it would provide awareness to the owner of their contribution, both good and bad.
Buying new Energy Star, and other certified homes is a great start, but the existing housing stock needs to be retrofitted with energy saving devices. This section of the housing stock is VAST. The process starts with an Energy Audit to educate a homeowner as to every step to take to save energy, make your home more comfortable, and the end result is reducing green house gases. But that's where everything stops. A homeowner decides what changes to make and has no evidence of green house gases, good or bad.
