Why Are There So Many BAD Agents?                               ? ? ? ? ?

I heard two stories today regarding bad real estate agents.

The first one was from a current buyer client who was telling me about a friend of hers who is having a terrible experience. She remarked to the friend how our relationship was working out and the friend told her that she wanted my card if her transaction didn’t go through. That certainly made me feel good but I was disappointed to hear how the other agent was not doing his job. She said that the friend had to do all the legwork from finding the home to put an offer on, finding an inspector, and contacting a contractor for an estimate of repairs. It has been over a month since the contract with no end in sight.

The second story was from a lead I received from Realtor.com today regarding one of our listings. The lead came via email with a phone number so I gave him a call. When I asked if he was working with an agent he said he was just calling some agents to look at homes and most wouldn’t call back at all or would call a week later to say that the home they were interested in was under contract.

Twice in one day I was dismayed with the real estate profession. Why Are There So Many BAD Agents?

As a Realtor with SilverPointe Properties in Brentwood TN, I set up detailed searches for my clients based on a thorough discussion of their needs, review listings for them, pick out homes to show, have handouts and maps available for showings, have software to accept electronic signatures, have a preferred list of lenders, inspectors, contractors, and other vendors, attend inspections, go to closings, and so much more.

If you’re looking for a great buying or selling experience, please give me a call…Jill 615-504-1185. Feel free to view my recommendations from past clients.

Jill,

It's unfortunate that the individuals you spoke with had such a bad experience.  I know when a consumer has such a bad experience it can taint the reputation of others in the industry.  But I'm glad that more of us serve our clients in the most professional way possible. So when we interact with individuals who have not had stellar service, their experience with us will leave them raving and referring the "great" agents to others!

We make it easy. You make it home.

Diana...Yes, these stories made me cringe. Unfortunately, most of my recommendations start out in similar fashion..."I've never had a good experience with a Realtor until I met Jill...". The great agents really have to work hard to overcome the bad experiences that people have had. Thanks for commenting.

Diana, the bar of entry into real estate sales is very low. In so we get our share of bad apples. These are newer and inexperience agents who may or may not care. All we can do is pick up the piece and represent ourselves and the hard working Realtor who do care and get the deal done.

If Real Estate Agents were ethical, there would be no need for a "Code of Ethics".  The sad reality is that our profession is filled with "Bad Agents".

Jill, There are certainly many agents out there that don't do their jobs correctly. I know you do and that is why you will get repeat business.

Jill, the amount of bad agents out there is truly ubelievable. From my perspective, it starts in the classroom as the standard for obtaining your license is too low. Taking a simple one week course shouldn't be the only thing potential licensees need to do especially considering that we handle the futures of our clients. More requirements need to be made to weed out those who aren't dedicated. Secondly, a lot of offices don't offer thorough training programs to guide their new agents every step of the way. It's like throwing a mino in the ocean with a shark.

Jill, after reading your story I just wonder how many new agents will fit in that category as Indiana is undergoing a rush of agents to get licensed before the June 30th deadline when the standards for education will almost double in terms of houses need to obtain a brokers license.  Their incompetence can be our gain.

Some people are just plain lazy, and some of them become agents because they think they can make some easy money... HA!

They should have a show called 'Bad Agents gone Wild'. We can share many stories that good agents have lived to tell about bad agent experiences. There are some bad agents out there who should be doing community service somewhere else.
