I am who I am

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Shepherd Real Properties

Hi,

As much as I enjoy real estate, my first calling is ministry.  Sometimes there seems to be a struggle in the fact that I want to be who I am, and be a christian minister in all that I do.  Where is the line drawn in real estate in being who I am, without offending people?  Not that I am pushing my faith on them, but why should I feel that I am in a closet when it comes to dealing with a client or customer?  I want to be free to express who I am.  Any suggestions or should I just stay in the closet.

Liz

I think your faith is lived out in the things we do as well as the things we say. You can come out of the closet. You can in your conversation say things that will let people know who you are with out being pushy. I know people will appreciate working with you.

The most refreshing and exhilarating thing you can do is to be yourself.  I don't think you need to separate the two.  You may find a niche once you come out of the closet.  Be true to yourself and if you offend someone, it is best that you don't work with them anyway.  Good-luck Elizabeth!

Hi, Liz!  BE YOURSELF.  You will attract clients who share your values and beliefs if you are up front about them in your blog, your website and your advertising.  If anyone is offended by this, they will not choose to work with you.  But there will be many others who will seek you out and thoroughly enjoy working with you.  My husband is from Charlotte and we lived there for about six years.  There are many people in Charlotte who would appreciate a Realtor like you.  Help them find you and enjoy your success!

And nice to meet you!

Woo hoo-your first post!!!  Go you!

I have chosen never to hide my faith and Christianity from my clients.  In fact, being in the car with people learning all the intimate details of their lives in regard to house-buying usually leads to a unique opportunity to witness.  I honestly think that part of my calling to God is real estate-He wants me in this place to talk to people outside of my usual walk in life, and I take that very seriously.  Doesn't mean I attack people or beat them about the head with a Bible, but I can bring it up quietly and open the door for the conversation.

Your ministry work and your real estate career work hand in hand.  You have a unique opportunity to fund the mission work that is your passion with this business which allows for an income beyond most other fields.

I for one am very humbled by the work that you do.  Makes me want to work harder.

Great Post!  For my real estate is a part of my ministry!  I don't push my religion on people but I do pray for everyone I come in contact with.  I also show that I am a child of God in all that I do...I try to anyway, I am sure sometimes I stumble.
