Your home is one of the single biggest investments you'll ever make and it's important to keep it maintained. Keep in mind that the more you keep up with your home's maintenance, the more it will pay off in the long run.
Similar to the maintenance checklist you have for your car in order to keep it running smoothly; oil change, tires rotated, fluids checked, etc. The same holds true with having a home maintenance checklist in order to keep your home's systems running smoothly
Here are a few home maintenance tips:
Safety First: Make sure that all smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers are working properly.
Fireplace: Have the chimney cleaned and checked yearly by a professional.
Windows and Doors: Always check windows and doors to make sure that the caulking and weather-stripping is in tact. (This alone will save on heating and cooling bills)
Furnace: replace the filters once a month and have it serviced in the fall.
Gutters: Should be cleaned in the spring and fall. Keeping gutters unclogged will prevent water damage. Also make sure that the drain pipes, drain away from the house.
Roof: Check for any missing or damaged material spring and fall.
Landscaping: Keep up with your landscaping, cut back trees and shrubs from the house walls. Also make it a goal to plant something new to your landscaping once a year.
