Home Made Weed Killers

Have any of you made home made weed killer before?  I have been searching the internet for a good recipe and I think I have found a couple...  If you have a really good one will you post it for me;)  I think I am going to use a recipe with vinegar, salt and Dawn liquid detergent.  I am not sure what portions to use or if I should add anything else- so any input is welcome!

Thank you all in advance!

Here you go. I am using this and it seems to work great.

2 pkg Miracle Grow

2 bottles of Dish soap  - I use the cheapest

1 package of Bread yeast

2 ozs of ground cayenne pepper

1 quart of Real Lemon Juice

if you have a rust or iron problem with water source you can add a no rust pruduct.

I tapped into my sprinkler system with a 30 gallon container. Home depot sells a kit about $100.

Fill the rest with water. Had it going about a month now. works great.

Good Luck!

Wow, Shanna, what a great post, and this time of year we sure could use some weed killer, and nice when we can make it homemade!

Bill has a great concoction. I've had a few friends try this and it really works on our pesky desert weeds. Great post to get some nice ideas!

Bill- Thanks for the recipe, it looks like a good one!

Joe- hopefully a lot of  people will start using less chemicals and more natural ingredients!

Jeff- I think the Cayenne pepper will keep bugs away!

Joe- I hope so!

Joan- The recipes that I have been looking at cost less than 10.00 and will last all summer!  Bill's recipe is new to me and I need to have another water spout installed before I can start that one;)

Jeff- I hope it work on the Midwest weeds too!

Thank you all for stopping by!

Shanna, bet this homemade weed killer could be put into a spray bottle to address small areas as well.

Weed killer with Miracle Grow? Miracle Grow will feed weeds. Yeast will attract slugs and mosquitoes if it connects with rotting plant material. Lemon juice repels mosquitoes.

Cayenne spooks rabbits and some other four legged stealers ( not racoons)

To kill weeds:

1. cover with used newsprint or old office paper and black plastic for 9 hot days

or

make a cone with used plastic milk container or barrier to keep off your good plants:

find old spray bottle

1 cup cheap white vinegar

1/8 cup dawn blue liquid soap

straight on the weed

Carefully remove the cone as to not splash on other plants.

If you get it on something green you want to live- rinse with water right away.

Another item you may want to add to the vinegar, dishwashing soap and water mix is salt.  This seems to work pretty well for us here in AZ.

I never tried to manage weeds in my garden, I let my gardener take care of it.

I don't have a lot.

Do you have pictures of your garden to share with us?:)

There are lots of formulas out there. I am a set it and forget type of person. My home lot is 100 x 190. I am not walking it to spray individual weeds. For me it works and guess what the lawn, flowers and bushes are liking it. PS...the ants have moved on also.
