Kristin - Thanks! It's fun to look through old pictures and remember the times.
Wow Pat, that is a dive into your world. Thank you for serving and protecting us.
Camel ride...now that would be fun!
Pat, you had me going for a minute, I couldn't figure out what a camel was doing in Alaska! Nice photos, and thank you for your service!
Great pictures Pat, primitive winter camping can be fun and leave you with a feeling of self reliance, I try to get out and rough it at least once every winter. That must have been quite a feeling to serve our country in such a great location.
That looks like a happy memory with your son in Arizona, thanks for sharing the memories Pat!
Pat, not too many kids can say they've ridden a camel! That is pretty cool.
Kerrie - There are times when I feel like I'm taking a first dive into my world when I look at old pictures.
Bette - No camels in Alaska, only their cousins, the llamas.
Bob - I decided after a few years of camping out with the Army that wet, cold, and miserable really wasn't fun, even if you do get a sense of accomplishment.
Patricia - I'm glad I found that picture. I doubt if my son even remembers it.
What do you mean it wasn't too cold? The picture looked like you had snow on the ground, and you're wearing a coat, for crying out loud.
Spoken like a true Californian, Elizabeth! Actually, that was just a heavy wool shirt, not a coat, and we needed the snow for insulation. As I recall, the temperature was hovering right around freezing and didn't drop below 20 that night.
Fun photos, Pat. I have never had to build a shelter nor have I ridden a camel. But Chief Cook has ridden a camel and tells me it isn't very much fun!
Ron - The shelter was good enough to stand up to one very calm night. I wouldn't have wanted to push beyond that withou a lot of improvement. My son was around 3 when he was riding the camel. It didn't seem to bother him!
How did I miss this post? Your son on the back of a camel...what a great shot.
what an interesting post...I hope you have a great rest of throw back thursday!
