Do you have anyone helping you with the down payment or to qualify for the loan? Remember to tell your real estate agent right up front that you will need to include these decision-makers in the process.
If you are a family of one (in other words, a sigle person) and you are purchasing solo, get advice and input from someone you trust. For example, your mom, your dad, your brother, your sister, or your best friend. Remember that while these folks are giving you advice, they do not have any legal obligations and your loan will be 100% in your name. YOU are the only final decision-maker.
Now, let’s talk about your teenagers. It’s important to get their support and commitment before the purchase of the home. Although they will not be co-signing on the loan, it is critical to have their cooperation when you move to a new neighborhood, especially if they have to change schools. Remember how teens are so attached to their friends during high school and middle school.
TIP: Speak with your teenagers throughout the process, explain each step, and ask for their feedback. Show them your final choice home and encourage them to become homeowners themselves one day.

Regina: How often does one spouse do the looking, and then the other one nixes it. So frustrating for everyone. Better, as you say, to have all the decision makers involved and that includes the viewing of potential homes.
