Weather Change Just in Time for First Day of Summer!

It has been a daunting week in the Flathead Valley. Between 2-6" of rain fell in 2 days setting a record and putting us well ahead of the normal average rain fall. Glacier National Park got 6-8" of rain in the lower elevations and 14-16" of SNOW in the higher elevations. I spent 2 days wearing rain gear just to go outside, unheard of.

Because the weather is now near 80 degrees with sunshine, flooding is being watched out for in "the park" as well as some trails being closed due to the overwhelming wetness on the ground. It is still a great time to ride bikes or hike the Going to the Sun Road prior to it opening to vehicles.  Here is the link to the road report.

The section of the road between Avalanche and Rising Sun is closed due to plowing.

West side hiker/biker restrictions:
On Friday, June 19, the hiker/biker restriction will be at the Loop.
On Saturday, June 21st, there are no hiker/biker restrictions, however travel is NOT RECOMMENDED beyond the Loop due to rock fall, debris, snow and potential snow slides on the road.
On Sunday, June 22nd, hiker/biker restrictions will be at the Loop.

East side hiker/biker restrictions: There will be no hiker/biker access past Rising Sun for June 20th.
