Moochers Beware

Toni, those poor squirrels!  You sure are right about the birds flocking in on you had you given in to your moochers!  Looks like you had a great day on the water!

You have mentioned Miss Vicki's before, and I would love to eat there with the two of you.  Those bird moochers are amazing, I have watched swoop on a table the minute it is vacated.  The bus boys have to rush to get a table cleared...looks like the Florida squirrels can read and obey the signs. A

You know me, I would probably have fed them LOL...great photos though!

Toni: All it takes is a small morsel for one and they bring all their friends. Smart not to feed the critters.

That is so funny Toni, what are they going to do, arrest you for feeding squirrels?

I'm thinking the squirrel members of the animal kingdom are being discriminated against. What do yhou think?

I am definitely not in love with any kind of mooch when I am eating outdoors-keep away flies, squirrels, seagulls, pigeons and mosquitoes!!

Thanks for sharing your photographs. Our friend in San Diego, William Johnson, posted a recent blog about the results of feeding the birds at his home. 

Got to be a story behind that squirrel sign. A number of years ago the nice gentleman who lived next door to us and who absolutely and definitely loved squirrels would buy big bags of nuts  to feed the squirrels. He had a zillion squirrels in his yard and we had a yard of discarded shells and corn cobs. Once counted 50 squirrels in our yard at one time. I know I would have loved to post that sign on our fence next to his house. He moved and today we may see one or two squirrels at a time. By the way the squirrels found a new place to hang out. The property behind us is huge and the family has a huge garden. Last year the squirrels ate every corn cob on his corn stalks. It was a very special corn and the guy was truly disappointed. So were we. Really wanted one of those corn cobs :)

The squirrels are probably just waiting in the bushes for the seagulls to get some food and then they will jump out and grab the food and run off. So who is faster....squirrels or seagulls?

Probably good advice to keep from being overrun.  But birds are just as much a problem at times.

Toni, lunch on the water is one of life's simple pleasures. It's so peaceful and relaxing. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it even with the moochers.

Toni,  Looks like a perfect lunch spot.  Those sea birds probably get lots of handouts from people. 

When you live close to the beach you learn the rules about Sea Gulls. Used to be fun to throw something in the air and watch them catch. The tough part is when they throw something back. 

Toni, like Jane I also had friend who used to feed squirrels  and always had way too many of them in his yard.  I certainly understand not feeding your moochers....it could really get to be a mess where you're having lunch!
