Anyone interested in Downtown Greensboro........

Greensboro is starting to see some of the growth that has been brought on by the Airport/Fedex project.  Everyone knows there is going to be growth, people just do not know how much it is going to be.

From this growth, we are starting to see an emergence of an area of Greensboro that has been somewhat neglected over the past 10 years or so.  DOWNTOWN.

Local groups in the area such as Downtown Greensboro, Inc. have done a terrific job in the start of revitalizing the downtown area.  It is soon to be the center of most of what goes on in and around Greensboro.

From Minor League Baseball to Concerts in the park, downtown is the new social playground for the area.

If you are interested in baseball, then look no further then the Greensboro Grasshoppers.  The new First Horizon Stadium, home of the Grasshoppers was constructed in 2005 and has been a center point of the downtown experience ever since.  The Grasshoppers offer a great family atmosphere for anyone from ages 1 to 100.

Nightlife in the downtown area is growing fast from places like Rum Runners, a dueling piano bar to Natty Greene's, local brew house brewing there own beer, to The Green Buro, a great Sports Bar.

Before you go for the nightlife, you may want to get a bite to eat.  Downtown offers a wide array of dinning experiences.  Some of my favorites have to be McCool's, an Irish Pub that has one of if not the best burger in Greensboro, Fincastle's, a little grill on Elm we usually venture to before going to see a Hoppers game, or Liberty Oak, a little fancier of the dinning areas.  There are many, many more places to chose as well.

Now, I have to say there is a lot to do in just a little amount of space, this is why I think the urban housing market is starting to really take off.  You are seeing condos go up on about every street downtown.  From 2 bedroom 1 bath with very little square footage, to huge mega condos that are 3 and 4 bedrooms and have as much square footage as a ranch home.

One of the new sites of downtown is South side, a neighborhood of residential and commercial living together.  Another place that has just started is the Center Point project. This is a project spearheaded by developer Roy Carroll to not only make urban living more luxurious in Greensboro, but also comfortable.  This high rise will be home to many in Greensboro as well as the developer himself.  This 17 story tower was once known as the Old Wachovia Building.  It will be interesting to watch the growth of Greensboro's first high rise.

Just of to the east of the Center Pointe high rise is the new Center City Park.  This park was opened just recently and is another wonderful added dimension to Downtown.

There are all kinds of new and fun things going on with the Downtown area of Greensboro, not to mention the Chris Daughtry concert.  So, if any of you have not ventured downtown since it has started its revitalization, you need to come down.  To the others who do come down often, I look forward to seeing you.
