The Essex Memorial Day Parade unfolded in bright colors and impassioned cheers on Saturday, May 24th, at the Five Corners in Essex Junction Vermont!
Vermonters are dedicated in supporting our country's veterans. One of the many ways Vermonters show their appreciation of our nation's brave veterans is an engaging, community-oriented, public celebration of their heroic sacrifices and efforts. Parades are more than simply good fun - they engage all generations. This year's theme was "All Gave Some - Some Gave All."
The Essex Memorial Day Parade is one of the largest memorial parades in Vermont, with over 135 Groups within 10 Divisions participating annually.
This year's parade will be hard to top! Muscle cars, horse-drawn carriages, performers in stilts, soldiers in uniform, firetrucks, incredible marching bands, and inimitable floats made for an eye-popping extravaganza that delighted everyone of all ages!
The Essex Memorial Day Parade is a highly organized event. Dedicated members made registration and participation incredibly accessible by creating a website for spectators and participants. On www.essexmemorialdayparade.com, participants could choose from a slew of volunteer activities. A coordinator courteously followed up with each one!
For example, you could be a Banner Carrier, and carry the division banners on the parade route. Teams were welcome to walk as a team, and wear their team shirts! Ages 13 years old and up were welcome to participate as Banner Carriers, allowing a huge range of ages to work together in supporting our veterans. The parade made a $10.00 donation for each carrier!
Parade Marshals, on the other hand, walked with the divisions, while maintaining the parade line and keeping their assigned division information. They received a parade t-shirt and their names were entered into a drawing for prizes!
If you like to strategize, you would have been welcomed as a Parade Committee Member, and you would have had lots of fun in making new friends and assisting the committee with the planning of the parade. Committee Members were free to participate in any capacity imaginable, with endless contribution possibilities.
Meanwhile, Parking Assistants assisted those arriving, departing, and returning to the fairgrounds. Parking Assistants didn't miss out on any of the fun though! They had a blast, all wearing a parade t-shirt for extra camaraderie. Each of their names were entered into a drawing for great prizes.
We loved this year's Memorial Day Parade, and we can't wait to see you at next year's celebration. You may want to start brain-storming on Most Creative Float a little early…We have some pretty good ideas for next year's 2015 Memorial Day Parade!
