Embarrassing Moments in Real Estate

By

For our Most Embarrassing Moments in Real Estate Contest, it took me a little while to think of a topic.  I shared the contest idea with my husband, who gets to hear about my activities all the time.  He quickly suggested a few episodes, that I apparently forgot.  Thanks honey.

My most embarrassing moment involves my truck.  Because I sell acreage and horse property, and pull a Real Estate and the F350horse trailer when I am not working, I drive an F350, a one ton pickup.  On the occasion that I am showing houses in town, to city folk, they don't understand the truck.  But, to my typical, rural client, it's as comfortable as an old boot.

So, a few years ago, I was out showing small acreage places to a lady with goats and llamas. We were about half way through our list of properties to see, when we were headed up a steep gravel driveway to look at a place on top of a hill.  On the way up, there was a small turn off to the garage, separate from the house.  I decided to pull in there and we would walk the next 50 feet or so to the house.  But, there wasn't much gravel on this turnoff to the garage.  It was at this moment I discovered my 4 Wheel Drive was no longer working.  I could not drive forward, or I would hit the garage.  I could not back up, because the tires were not grabbing any traction in the soft, wet ground.

Luckily, I knew someone not more than 4 miles down the road.  I called, he answered!  He was there in a few minutes, and pulled my big truck back onto the gravel.  Me and my client in the truck.  So glad that day is over!  And yes, she bought a place, just not that one.

oh my - since I don't understand trucks, I'm guessing this was not a good situation.  LOL

Thanks for entering our contest.  It's so fun to read everyone's entries

Nope, not impressive at all.  Luckily, I got it fixed, and it has worked ever since.

It pays to know someone with chains and a winch.  I think I'd love to drive a 350 for work! lol  It just is not going to look good in the parking lot of high rise condos.

Catherine: that sounds like a tense moment. It's got to be tough pulling the rig. When I have had to do it while pulling my boat, there have been instances that I have had to get out to check out a road to make sure I had a suitable turnaround.  Great little story.

In times such as that one is lucky to have a caring and helping angel handy. Lucky for you, Catherine,  you had one.

Ah, life in the country! I love visiting my brother who lives outside Elko NV - I've had adventures getting stuck in his truck while driving on the non-roads! Good memories!

I'm sure you made the most of the additional time with your client as she did purchase a property, glad to know the experience was not all bad.
