For our Most Embarrassing Moments in Real Estate Contest, it took me a little while to think of a topic. I shared the contest idea with my husband, who gets to hear about my activities all the time. He quickly suggested a few episodes, that I apparently forgot. Thanks honey.
My most embarrassing moment involves my truck. Because I sell acreage and horse property, and pull a horse trailer when I am not working, I drive an F350, a one ton pickup. On the occasion that I am showing houses in town, to city folk, they don't understand the truck. But, to my typical, rural client, it's as comfortable as an old boot.
So, a few years ago, I was out showing small acreage places to a lady with goats and llamas. We were about half way through our list of properties to see, when we were headed up a steep gravel driveway to look at a place on top of a hill. On the way up, there was a small turn off to the garage, separate from the house. I decided to pull in there and we would walk the next 50 feet or so to the house. But, there wasn't much gravel on this turnoff to the garage. It was at this moment I discovered my 4 Wheel Drive was no longer working. I could not drive forward, or I would hit the garage. I could not back up, because the tires were not grabbing any traction in the soft, wet ground.
Luckily, I knew someone not more than 4 miles down the road. I called, he answered! He was there in a few minutes, and pulled my big truck back onto the gravel. Me and my client in the truck. So glad that day is over! And yes, she bought a place, just not that one.
