Anyone ever hear of XTERRA? Neither had I until about 8 years ago. It's basically the triathalon on steroids. All terrain. Not smooth surfaces. Best athletes in the world.
I became captivated by a remarkable young woman named Jamie Whitmore. She has won 37 championships and is in the XTERRA hall of fame. But in 2008, she was diagnosed with cancer which meant some remarkable surgeries that removed muscles that would forever forbid her from competing competitively in XTERRA races. Despite warnings from doctors that radiation would prevent her from having kids, she has given birth to twin boys.
She is now on track for representing you and I and the United States of America in the Paralympic Games in 2016 in Rio. She has set new world records.....and.....what is most exciting for me is that she's now up for an ESPY AWARD.
Can you vote for Jamie for BEST FEMALE ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY?
Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/espys/2014/vote/?id=11044668&lang=en. You can vote everyday.
HERE'S HER STORY.....IT'S WORTH THE WATCH!
SHE MAY JUST GET A CHAPTER IN MY NEXT BOOK! BUT SHE ALREADY HAS MY HEART FOR INSPIRATION. PROUD TO CALL JAMIE A FRIEND!
GO TEAM WHITMORE!!!!!
