It's Raining, It's Pouring-but we're still Stage 3 water restriction

We have had some great rains here in North Texas over the past few days/weeks.  Usually at this time of year, the weatherman gets to take a mental break as the forecast always looks the same - hot & dry.  Normally in June/July we start to see the 100+ degree weather for weeks in a row with no end in sight.

However - 2014 is different (and man did we need it to be).  We have had 2.45 inches of rain in Plano for the month of June 2014 (as of 6/26/14).  That is good news for our lakes.  Did you know that Lake Lavon is the main water source for many of the residents of Collin County, Rockwall County, Hunt County, and Kaufman County?

Lake Lavon is not doing great - but at least we made some progress this week:

Percent Full is based on Conservation Storage and Conservation Capacity.

Even with the rain we have had recently, we are still under a Stage 3 water restriction in most of North Texas.  Stage 3 restrictions include:

  • Prohibit landscape and lawn irrigation from 10 am to 6 pm.
  • Prohibit hosing of paved areas, buildings, or windows. (Pressure washing of impervious surfaces is allowed.)
  • Prohibit washing or rinsing of vehicles by hose except with a hose end cutoff nozzle.
  • Prohibit using water in such a manner as to allow runoff or other waste.
  • Prohibit hydro seeding, hydro mulching, and sprigging.
  • Prohibit operation of all ornamental fountains or other amenity impoundments to the extent they use treated water.
  • Existing swimming pools may not be drained and refilled, except to replace normal water loss.
