Are You Writing Blog Posts Just to Write? Or Do You Have a Purpose?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Don Sabinske, Sabinske & Associates Inc. 539MN

I have written fewer than 800 blog posts over the course of my time here on ActiveRain.

Why?  Because I have better things to do, obviously.

But, my localism posts are what bring the business!   Those and my listing postings.

Trying to find the time to get everything done whether its summer or winter seems to be the problem.

I would rather be selling houses than blogging for business   Now, don't get me wrong.  I write those posts for the local community, and I feel that there is a need for that in my community.

I am not striving to be the best and the brightest on writing posts, but, when they are well-received by the community, I feel as if th is definitely worth it, too.

I will continue the weekly localism posts even if no one comments.

And, I have a greater good in mind: the needs of my clients to know what is happening in the Elk River, Zimmerman and Big Lake areas.

It is my mission to serve my clients here to the best of my ability as well as my buyers and sellers in the listing, purchase or negotiating of their positions.

Great Post and content is KING even if you do not get comments you are getting the attention of the people that matter buyers and sellers.

Don~ I believe that is what makes ActiveRain great. The idea is to blog for your audience to generate business and feel good about it!

I blog less and think more. If I post it is to benefit the reader and to express something that for me can create an emotional resonance that causes others to act.

Don, For the most part my posts have to meet one of two criteria:  Either information my local consumers can use (and that can be local events, subdivision posts, market reports, etc.), or posts that build relationships with other Rainers.  Not much else makes the screen for allowed topics.

Don, sounds like you have a solid plan in place, and it's working. I used to write the allotted maximum of posts every week when I got back in the swing of things but, after a while, not only does it get hectic, but you over-saturate yourself. I've learned one, well-placed post works better, especially when you know your audience's wants and needs.

I think most of you agree, and the 20 posts a week is stupid.  Sorry, but that is the way I feel about that change.  I would rather see more comments made!

I enjoying blogging =)  But I get out at most 3 a week.  Here on AR I do market stats/local posts for business and some just for fun to create community and have others get to know me.  Have a great weekend!

Business blogs are not effective if they fail to generate business or develop relationships.

Don, I did not know they changed to 20 a week - that's crazy.  Might as well go with the title of writer instead of Realtor.  I am satisfied with my local community blogs that brought me buyers and few comments.

I have my marketing company write on my behalf to help my organic search ranking.

Would I write if there wasn't such a thing as search engines? Maybe. Even in the offline world of yesterday, sending a print newsletter to your book of business kept you and your brand top of mind with them and yielded word of mouth referrals.

The best way I found to write on a regular basis was to do series - several posts on a single topic to get a really in-depth discussion.  So many local topics could be covered over 6-8 articles that you could easily get up to 20 per week.

To each his own I say.  I'm NOT going to write 20 posts a week and if that fact allows people to fly by me on the leaderboard, so be it.  I'll just keep writing what I feel is relevant to my business.

Although there are many added benefits of blogging here, my primary reason has to be the benefit to my business. When I started here, I had no internet presence at all. Now, you will find me all over the internet. That is all a result of what I learned here.

Don, blogging for business should bring the business - however, we should not get so busy that we almost stop blogging (and thus, leading to no business!)

We all have a purpose for blogging on ActiveRain. It's a thin line one needs to draw when it comes to number of posts per week, I guess.
