Protect Your Pets on 4th of July

Protect Your Pets on 4th of July

Fourth of July Fireworks:

  • Make sure to keep your dogs inside as the noise and smells can cause a lot of anxiety.
  • Sometimes they get so upset that they will run off or get mad and bite or scratch someone.
  • Leave them at home in a quiet area until the night is over.
  • Leave the television on to hide the noise of fireworks outside.
  • Keep your pets away from the "safe and sane" fireworks you and your kids may be using.
  • Use safety measures with your pets, children, family and friends.

Honesty, Integrity, Results, Experienced. HIRE Me!

Good morning Kristin.  This is such an important post that I have suggested.  Dixie doesn't seem to even notice fireworks.  Then again she thinks she is human and knows her Mom and Dad will protect her.   Our child :)

Kristin- we do have to spread the word. My Lucky was gun shy (we found her at my husband's hunting lease)  and was frightened of thunder and fireworks.

Hi Li,

I am always surprised when visitors in the mountain communities take their dogs to watch the fireworks at the Village. Leave them at home!

Hi Kathy,

My cocker spaniel was let loose by the gardener many years ago when she was only 6 months old. We searched high and low and AC found her 30 days later down in the flood channel under a big shady tree. We had a lot of thunder storms that May which saved her life due to drinking water but she was always afraid of lightening and thunder afterwards. My poor girl but she survived and was a wonderful pet for 15 years.

We are out of the country for the 4th but we have a pet babysitter. Our 14 year old standard poodle, Hope Elizabeth, is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks, or any loud noises. When I am here she is either in the bathroom or her head is buried in my lap on the couch. The babysitter will be paying special attention that evening. This is our special purpose as humans, taking care of those who give us unconditional love.

Suggested Kristin. Dogs do react to fireworks and they should be protected. It's an owner's responsibility. Let's hope you get featured to get the word out before there are too many strays wondering in the dark all alone, scared, hungry, and lonely for their owners and homes.

Hi Joe,

You are a totally responsible pet owner and I am sure your babysitter will make sure she is not scared. Fireworks is a great tradition but it has a lot of drawbacks like injuries and frightening pets. Pets can get scared and run into the street which we all know can have disasterous results. Keeping your Poodle Hope Elizabeth in the bathroom is a great idea during the fireworks times.

Hi Patricia,

I am doing a post tonight about a sweet and docile Pit bull. Now I know they are usually mean but I found this guy hiding in the bushes outside of my gated complex several days ago. I have been trying to get him adopted or picked up by a rescue before the 4th so he will not be out when the fireworks. He will be fairly close to 2-3 different firework displays. I could not find him tonight and he did not eat the food I left this morning. I hope to see him tomorrow morning. Fireworks will be so scary for him. I am hoping AC did not find him as he will be doomed.

Kristin.  I am dreading the 4th this year.   My girl had a near miss with a train so already touchy with loud noises.  Will have to figure something out.  Most likely the TV on will be a big help.

Hi Mark,

So sorry to hear about the train accident. Yes, I think the television will be a great help. Have a happy holiday.
