New Rochelle has long been known as being the movie/commercial/TV Series favorite in Westchester. Being located so close to the city, and with areas replete with split level homes (which we Realtors euphemistically call ‘ Mid-Century Modern) built in the 1950′s, and with so many gracious and elegant Colonials and Tudor homes on tree-lined, quiet streets, it is quite understandable.
This past week, we in our the Paine Heights neighborhood received a ‘robocall’ from the city asking that we palce our garbage to the curbside earlier than suual in light of a television commercial being filmed in the area. A lovely colonial had been chosen for an insurance commercial and so dog walkers and gawkers alike would walk by for those two days of filming to see the excitement and commotion in the area.
SO, it came as no surprise to me to have been called by the Assistant Location Manager for “ORANGE is the new BLACK asking permission to potentially film several scenes at 271 Beechmont Drive. Why did she wish to film at this particular home. Gina, the Assistant Location Manager was seeking a home with large rooms, and 271 Beechmont Drive certainly has that. Beautiful, large rooms… The Master Bedroom traverses the entire width of the home as it features a sleeping porch, bedroom, dressing room and of course bathroom. The Netflix series which is comedy/drama and based on Piper Kerman’s Memoir entitled “Orange is the new Black – My year in a women’s prison” and is raw, provocative and hugely entertaining. 271 Beechmont Drive, if selected, will be used in a flashback in one scene, and modern day in another for one of the characters.
The living room is huge…approximately 30′ 7 ” X 17 ‘ 5″ and that does not include the sun porch which is another 13′ 8″ X 10 1/4″.
The Assistant location director took some photos around the home and the exterior, and she will be letting my owners know if the home is selected.. Of course, we do not need the benefit of having the home televised to know that it is simply a great house, but it confirms our thoughts that the home is being viewed by many, and will soon be sold!
New Rochelle is GREAT!
