Speechless Sunday-Release of Butterflies Brings Good Fortune to Couple

G and RayYesterday we witnessed the marriage of two friends from our church.  The butterfly themed  wedding took place at an 18th century estate on 57 acres along the Yellow Breeches creek in Cumberland County.  The guests witnessing the marriage were asked to dress very casually, the groom wore Bermuda shorts and the bride wore a gold sundress with a Celtic cape.

Upon the priest announcing the couple husband and wife, the “butterfly” girl, released
what seemed like hundreds of monarchs into the breeze flowing over the creek.  The release is said to bring good fortune and blessings for the new couple.

We were speechless  . . .

Hi Bette, I bet that was a beautiful sight, when she released the butterflies. Sounds like a great wedding, simple effective and probably not as expensive as most.

Bette wow what a nice touch, I never heard of this before, I wonder what culture stared this first? Or was it just the bride & grooms idea? Endre

Larry, The wedding was very simple, no flowers, just butterflies and the sounds of the chirping crickets and the water flowing in the creek.

Endre, Someone told me that the some Native American Indian tribes release butterfilies during marriage ceremonies.

The release of butterflies is suppose to symbolize happiness, as they dart off in all directions proclaiming the promised marriage between two souls bound in Gods trust and word.
